We’d love to tear your ticket, but we need your help to save the El Rey Theater, first!
The non-profit El Rey Theater Alliance (ERTA) seeks to preserve, restore, and reopen the unique and historic El Rey Theater, a downtown Chico, California gem since it began life as the Majestic vaudeville house in 1905.
Sold by Regal Entertainment to real estate developers in 2005, the El Rey was slated for gutting and conversion to office space.
Now, as of summer 2007, the untouched El Rey is back on the market—complete with the exquisite 1940s art moderne fairy murals that generations of Chicoans have loved.
Let’s seize this opportunity to create a vibrant, multiuse showcase for cinema, performing arts, and the Chico community in the heart of downtown.
